Five for Friday: June 14, 2013

Checking in with Doodles Bug's Five for Friday...

Diving in Deep!: Creating My Own Graphics (Sarah)

Last week I shared how I decided to just "dive" in to something new for me--creating my own graphics.  Creating my own graphics is something I have wanted to do for YEARS...
Well, I met with an Adobe Illustrator "expert" (the daughter of a fellow teacher) for some one-one one training, and after a few hours I learned everything I needed to know to make my drawings into graphics! I was absolutely thrilled!!! Yahoo! Fabo! Can you feel my excitement??

I would love for you to fly over to my brand-new Teachers Pay Teachers store, Graphics by Sarah Beth, to take a gander at my creations!

When researching Adobe Illustrator (to purchase the program), I found out that Adobe has something called the Creative Cloud--it includes Illustrator, PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, and many other Adobe creative products.  AND it's just $19.99 a month (for educators).  A much better deal than purchasing each of these products the "old fashioned way". Check it out here!

"Beefing Up" Word Work (Courtney & Sarah)

We met on Thursday to discuss "beefing up" or word work for this coming school year.  Our goal is to take our kids far beyond practicing spelling words by creating some new vocabulary, word wall, and parts of speech tasks for our students.  We also decided to create a four-by-four grid of choices that we can change up from time to time depending on concepts/content being learned.  We will be sharing some of our creations in the next few weeks...

Guided Math (Courtney & Sarah)

When we met this week, we also had some great talk surrounding guided math.  We would love for you to share any guided math text resources, blogs, or website you find especially useful. Just leave a comment with your suggestions. We would like to compile a list of resources and sites for a future post. Thanks so much for sharing!

Here are some reasources we have gathered so far:

Vacation Bible School (Courtney)

This week I was a crew leader in my church's bible school. It was Sunday-Thursday in the evenings.  We learned so many new songs, did creative crafts, played fun games, and learned great stories from the Bible. I find that I tend to use my "teacher voice" whenever around children, even at Bible school:) Gotta keep everyone in order!

Pinterest Veteran & Newbee (Courtney & Sarah)

We are living in the Pinterest age, so it seems... Well, I (Sarah) have not gotten my act together to actually start Pinning.  Uugh! Well, I have set this as a goal for myself as I round out this week.  I am the newbee! On the other hand, Courtney has a fun-filled board. She is the veteran!  Check out her pins here!

Enjoy your weekend!
