Five for Friday: June 7, 2013

This has been our first FULL week off of school! Linking up with Five for Friday at Doodle Bugs..

Organization Nightmare Update (Sarah)

Last Friday I shared my workstation organization nightmare... I took Courtney's advice and purchased tubs and labeled them by month/s. Click Here for a copy of month/s labels. The sorting has begun! I sorted many of my math workstations according to the month/s they are used.  As I sorted, I also jotted down the name of each workstation and how many of each are in the tub.

Next steps--continue sorting and create a list of workstations according to Common Core Mathematics Standards for each tub.  This will also give me a nice visual so I can actually see where I need to add workstations according to standards. More to come...

Potty Training (Courtney)

I have a 2 year old, and well since I'm home now, we decided to tackle potty training. I know it's not a real exciting endeavor, but it means my last child out of diapers....Halleluiah!  She's just about got it. Now I just need to make sure to include a spare set of clothes wherever we go....oh and to know the location of every bathroom wherever we go!

Diving In!: Creating My Own Graphics (Sarah)

It is summer, so I decided to just "dive" in to something new for me--creating my own graphics.  Creating my own graphics is something I have wanted to do for YEARS, so I set out this summer to find a course in my area to learn about using Adobe Illustrator.  Well, there was nothing offered until August, during the day, when I will be back at school.  Then I remembered that the daughter of a teacher I used to work with was a graphic arts/photography major in college.  I remembered her mom telling me she worked with Adobe products--and that was over 10 years ago! Somehow that conversation entered back into my mind, and I contacted her right away.  Well, I met with her for the first time today and will be meeting with her again next week.  I have learned so much already!!  I am thrilled to be able to do something that I have wanted to do for so long.  I hope to be posting some of my graphics very soon... :0)

When researching Adobe Illustrator (to purchase the program), I found out that Adobe has something called the Creative Cloud--it includes Illustrator, PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, and many other Adobe creative products.  AND it's just $19.99 a month (for educators).  A much better deal than purchasing each of these products the "old fashioned way". Check it out here!

First TpT Product in a LONG While... (Sarah)

For 16 years now, whether it be with my literacy kids, third graders, fifth graders, and now second graders, I have done a dodecahedron project. A dodecahedron has 12 pentagon faces. You may have seen these before... For the past two years, with second graders, we have created "Getting to Know Me" dodecahedrons. Upon reflection, I have decided to do the dodecahedron project with a science related topic. Therefore, I created this, similar yet simplified, cube project for the beginning of the year. It takes less time, but it serves the same purpose. :0) Fly on over to my TpT Nest to learn more...

Have a wonderful weekend!  We'll see you on Sunday for Collaboration Cuties' Mentor Text Link Up!
